Does cold, rainy weather effect pain?

Posted on

There was a recent study that came out stating that weather and pain do not mix.  There is no correlation between peoples pain and weather.  I have been treating pain for years and I have even seen my own great-grandmother argue with the weather man if it was going to be cold, rainy, or snowing.  Plus chiropractors tell me that their office gets busier with the cold and rainy weather.  I think whoever did the research paper needs to redo it again.

Immigration Health Issues

Posted on

I was looking online and I saw a taped interview with a local doctor stating that the only thing we have to worry about, health wise, is normal bacteria, viruses and scabies. I say that doctor is wrong.  I use to work with refugees coming into Arizona.  They got a full health check for Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, Parasites, HIV, Mumps, Measles, etc… from the county health clinic. Once they checked out they would get the proper medication and/or shots and then they would see a primary care who would then refer them out to the specialist they needed. Many of the refugees were getting some vaccinations before they came to the US.  A lot of these illegals are not getting the proper health checks that are needed.    Since we don’t know if any of them received any proper medical treatment before coming to the US how are we suppose to know what all we could be facing with undetected diseases.  I agree with Dr. Manny from Fox News. ” It is not for me to say what our immigration policy in America should be. But as a doctor, I do have the right to say that a major health catastrophe could be looming if we don’t address these immigration health issues at our border towns now.”  Better health screening needs to be done.

Is there a price to pay with weightloss programs?

Posted on

A few years ago I was working with another doctor.  This doctor had put together his own weight loss program that included hcg, caffeine pills,  prescription appetite suppressant, plus a meal plan and blood work every week. As a doctor I like to experiment with supplements and other things before giving them to my patients so I know what is happening.

I was on this program for about 5 days.  I almost paid the price for what I did.

Caffeine pills- I took one of them and within 10 minutes my blood sugars dropped so badly I was shaking and needing some high sugary foods just to bring my blood sugars back to normal.  Needles to say I never took those again.

HCG- messed up my colon. I have IBS and the HCG made my IBS worse then what it was.

The prescription appetite suppressant low dose made me so dehydrated I was not only drinking water like crazy, but my appetite increased because my body was trying to get water anyway it could plus it dried my colon out that it took me several months just to get my colon right again. I almost needed to go to the ER for an IV I was that dehydrated.

Fast forward a few years.  From a routine scan I found out that I have a kidney stone and 2 large cysts on my liver.  I am guessing that these two conditions came up from the experiment I did a few years back. Fortunately, I was able to bring the inflammation down on my colon.

Before getting on a diet program check get all the facts first.  Like any side effects that have happened with any patients.

This taught me to just do a weight management program in my office, but no weight loss programs in my office will ever be done.

Finding time for me.

A couple of years ago I thought I had to be a devote mom.  I gave up exercise and I few other things I love to be there for others.  I found that I was becoming more tired and more irritated.  The last few days I decided that I could walk around my house and get exercise while still being a mom.  Instead of watching TV I know do speed walking with weights around the house or outside for about 20-40 minutes a day.  I feel I have more energy for everything else now that I put exercise back in to my life.
